2017 Phase 2C Supplementary

Phase 2CS

Phase 2C Supplementary is for a child who is not yet registered in a primary school after Phase 2C. If you're reading this, most likely it means you've lost the ballot during Phase 2C.

There's still a little more than a week left to go before the registration for the next phase begins. This is the last opportunity you will get to voluntarily choose a school for your childIn Phase 3, you will still be required to register your child in any school with vacancies left. However, MOE will centrally process all the applications and the posting outcomes released to parents by 30 November 2017.

[Phase 2C Supplementary online registration begins on from 13 August 2017 (Sunday), 9.00am to 15 August 2017,  (Tuesday), 4.30pm. Parents may also wish to register at the school from 15 August 2017, Tuesday to 16 August 2017, Wednesday. Announcement of results will be by 21 August 2017, Monday. ]

Current vacancies for Phase 2C supplementary are posted on MOE's website. However, it does not the show the number of unsuccessful applicants during Phase 2C, which you can view from here. From our calculations, the number of vacancies for all schools in Singapore still exceed the number of unsuccessful applications in phase 2C.

However, if you are staying in Bukit Timah, Central or Novena, it will be useful to look closer at the situation here:

- While there are 65 vacancies left in Bukit Timah Primary School, there is an overall shortage of 13 vacancies to accommodate all the unsuccessful Phase 3C applicants in Bukit Timah area.

- Stamford Primary School, with 83 vacancies, will be able to take in all the unsuccessful applications from the other three schools within Central area. However, there may be a spillover effect from Bukit Timah and Novena, such that the overall vacancies for these three areas combined are still 8 short.

So, to maximise your chances of getting the school of your choice, we recommend you to take the following steps:

1. Select the 2 or 3 schools that you will apply to.

2. Use www.onemap.sg to determine which schools are within 1km and which are between 1-2km.

3. Do a quick comparison to see if your chances, based on your proximity to the schools will be good.

4. Look at the surrounding schools within 1-2km and check if they have a higher number of unsuccessful applications in Phase 2C than available vacancies in your school of choice as in the case highlighted above here. If yes, relook your back-up plans and be prepared to cast the net further out - in schools beyond 2km but where total vacancies exceed the number of unsuccessful applicants.

5. Monitor the take-up rate (TUR) for Phase 2C supplementary very closely. Numbers will be updated and published at the end of each day of the 4-day exercise on the MOE website. However, if you are outside 1km, you may wish to call up the schools to enquire about the numbers, or wait until the final day and make a trip down to the school directly to enquire, and register. Do leave time to proceed to the next school, if the numbers are not to your favour.

We hope the above steps can help you secure a school in this phase of the Primary 1 Registration Exercise. Good luck!
